Origins
Wesley Glass came up in Atlanta and became closely associated with the YSL camp, producing extensively for Young Thug at the point when Thug's influence on rap delivery was at its peak.
Young Thug and Gunna
He produced across Slime Language, Drip Season and much of Gunna's catalogue. The airy, melodic, heavily reverbed sound those records run on is substantially his, and it became the default texture for melodic rap for several years.
What his production sounds like
Lighter and more spacious than most Atlanta trap, built on plucked melodic lines and rolling hi-hats with the low end pulled back. It leaves room for a vocalist to be melodic without competing.
Range
Beyond the YSL orbit he has produced for Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, Drake and NBA YoungBoy, appearing across several of the albums covered here.
Standing
He is consistently named by other producers among the best working — Tay Keith put his tag in the top five — while remaining considerably less famous than the artists he built. That is the normal condition of the job.
The YSL years
His run with Young Thug across the mid to late 2010s coincided with Thug having more influence on how rappers deliver a line than anyone else working. The production had to accommodate a voice doing genuinely unusual things, and it did.
Gunna
The Drip Season tapes and the albums that followed are the most complete expression of the style: melodic, weightless, luxurious, and enormously imitated. Gunna's commercial peak and Wheezy's are the same period.
The tag
"Wheezy outta here" is among the most recognisable in rap, and Tay Keith named it in his top five when Complex asked. Producers rate it; casual listeners often do not know whose it is.
Working with NBA YoungBoy
He appears across several albums covered on this site, and the melodic register he built in Atlanta fits Baton Rouge's tradition more naturally than most Atlanta production does.
Volume
He produces at very high volume across a wide range of artists, and the consistency at that rate is the thing other producers point to. The hit ratio would be respectable at a fraction of the output.
