GloRilla
Gloria Woods brought a blunt, shouted, unmistakably Memphis style back to the charts at a point when rap's dominant female register was melodic and polished. She sounds like nobody else currently on radio and that is most of the appeal.
Early life and origins in Memphis
She grew up in Frayser, North Memphis, one of a large family, and sang in church before rapping. The Memphis crunk lineage — Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat, La Chat — is audible in everything she makes.
How she got started
"F.N.F. (Let's Go)", produced by Hitkidd and released in 2022, was the breakthrough: a shouted, celebratory record about being single that became a genuine phenomenon and earned a Grammy nomination. Yo Gotti signed her to CMG shortly after.
Album discography
The EP Anyways, Life's Great (2022), the mixtape Ehhthang Ehhthang (2024, number eighteen on the Billboard 200) and her debut studio album Glorious (2024), which took the largest opening week of any female rap album that year.
Notable songs
"F.N.F. (Let's Go)", "Tomorrow 2" with Cardi B, which reached number nine on the Hot 100, "Yeah Glo!", "Typa", "Killin' It Girl" with j-hope and "Shyne" with Travis Scott.
What she is known for musically
Volume and cadence. She raps loudly and slightly ahead of the beat, with minimal melodic softening, over crunk-derived production. The writing is direct and communal — a lot of her biggest records are about friendship rather than romance or money.
Where she is now
Her 2024 comeback run carried through into 2025 and 2026 and earned major Grammy recognition, making her one of the few artists to convert a viral single into a durable career rather than a moment.
CMG and Yo Gotti
Collective Music Group is Yo Gotti's Memphis label, and signing there rather than to a coastal major kept her inside the scene that produced her sound. The label pushed her hard through 2022 and 2023 without ever sanding down the delivery, which is a large part of why the records still sound regional.
The 2024 comeback
After a quieter 2023 she opened 2024 with "Yeah Glo!", followed with the Ehhthang Ehhthang mixtape, and closed the year with Glorious. Three releases in twelve months took her from a viral artist at risk of fading to a fixture, and the debut album's opening week was the largest for any female rap album that year.
Faith and the records
She sang in church before rapping and returns to religion openly in her writing, sometimes in the same verse as material that sits nowhere near it. That combination is common in Southern rap and rarely handled as matter-of-factly as she handles it.
Collaborations
Cardi B on "Tomorrow 2", Megan Thee Stallion on "Wanna Be", j-hope of BTS on "Killin' It Girl" and Travis Scott on "Shyne". The reach of that list, from Memphis crunk to K-pop, says something about how far the style travelled.
